The Northampton Geek meet is open to anyone who want’s to come along. It has so far met in the King Billy and The Malt Shovel in Northampton. The venue isn’t important it’s all about the company. Follow the hashtag #ngm on twitter to find out more.
During a heated game of Hungry Hippo a stray ladybird found it’s way in amongst the action. The game had to be momentarily stopped whilst the Ladybird was nudged to safety. Luckily all the action was caught on camera. (No Ladybirds or Hippo’s were hurt in the making of this video.)
@Minimentally can’t crawl yet. Any time now. He can still cause chaos though. He rolls, shuffles and wriggles his way around. Still, It feels like the calm before the storm. Who knows what he’ll be up to in a few weeks.
This was not an interview. It was a request for a comment from the worlds most successful British Formula One driver, Nigel Mansell. When I asked on twitter if people wanted to ask Nigel anything @Solobasssteve said.. “Ask him about the carbon footprint of Formula 1. This is what he said.
Another last minute VloMo09 blog entry.. I really wanted to play harmonica in the shower. It’s a ritual I have in all the hotel rooms I frequent. I turned my bag upside down though and with all the tech i have packed.. all the cameras, the power, the leads, the solar devices, the gps trackers and the tool.. I aparently didn’t pack my harmonica.
I have been throwing some of the questions today into the twitter feed and there have been some interesting responses.Don’t forget this conversation is not just limited to this conference. Here are a couple of answers.. not saying they are the right ones..Q1. How will media cope with the speed of change?A. Retain core values and focus what you are good at. Q2. What new skills will the journalist of (say) 2020 need?A. (from @teacherdude) The ability to shift through masses of contradictory info in real time to come up with coherent story on multi-platforms. Q3. What new skils will the journalist of 2020 need?
I popped into a shop in Olney whilst in town to meet @Jobucks.. I remember seeing the shop a year or so and was pleasantly surprised to find them on twitter. (@HappyDaysToys) They don’t seem to tweet much and I thought that a shame as they have a store full of cool stuff. I figured if i film a geeky toy i found and put it online it may entice them to get involved more. Thanks to Jo for doing the filming on my little Canon Ixus 120is
It’s NaVloMo09 National (although it’s international) videobloggers month. I have somehow managed to post 14 videos over the 12 days so far. I am amazed I have managed to get this far. I am exhausted though.. With all this work and play there is not much time for rest. This video reflects my mood at the end of the day today. The end of a hard but very satisfying stint of work. I shot this on a Canon Ixus 120is and manipulated the clip in imovie. The Musician is a friend of mine.
This clip must have been shot a couple of years ago as I can’t remember using the Nokia E61 for a long time.
The solar panel is charging the phone on a boat trip down the river Spey. Myself and a friend spent a few days paddling from the mountains to the sea and camping along the way. I still have this panel and it is still working well. It cost £25 from Maplin and had 12V of AA batteries built in and a 12V cigar lighter plug outlet. Phones have come a long way in a short time yet the solar stuff I see for sale seems cheap and gimmicky unless you fork out over £100. I can’t help but feel this tech has been held back. I may be wrong as I only see what’s on sale on the high street and that isn’t a massive range. I’ll keep looking. I have a soft spot for solar. I keep thinking the sun will come out. Here’s hoping.
Twitter are rolling out new features quite regularly now. I know it is mostly playing catch-up to all the different twitter apps out there forging ahead with innovations and ideas.. Still, I like the direction so far and they seem to be keeping my on the homepage.
There is still so much to do though. I just hope tit’s not in preparation for some big sell off. Here’s a retweet I just posted and how some see it..
I have always had to have some kind of tech with me when in the outdoors. Even if it is a compass or a fancy multi-tool. It’s more than just being prepared. I could live without it but it goes a hell of a long way to making any trip or adventure more ‘comfortable’.
I have seen this video pop up in people’s tweets a couple of times today so i thought I would drop it into my Posterous page as well. There appears to be more wine talk than normal.. Winter must be upon us. Not that I drink any more in any particular season.. I just really enjoy a decent Red in front of an open fire with and after a hearty meal.
The stew like soup, Borscht can be found all over the world. Originating in Ukraine It’s regularly found it’s way to my table having either being cooked by my Ukrainian Grandfather and now after he has passed away, his wife, my Italian Grandmother. I call her Nonna. The dish has many different variations. I enjoy all the ones she makes. If you have a chunk of black bread to hand.. even better.
The UN World Food Programme are looking for vloggers to take part in their international video competition entitled Hungerbytes!
They hold the competition every year in partnership with Youtube. It’s open to all but you have to be 18 to claim the prize of a trip into the field to witness the work that’s being done to help chronically hungry people. (Last year 3 girls travelled to Ethiopia and visited one of the agency’s largest food assistance operations.
If you feel you can create a hard hitting, provocative youtube video that makes people think about hunger issues, check out the information at: Hungerbytes! to enter.
This year, for the first time ever, the number of chronically hungry people crossed the 1 billion marker. The chronically hungry have stunted growth of both the body and the mind. Many will die.
If you don’t feel like entering why not just spread the word? I think this is a great use of social media to raise awareness of Hungerbytes! and ultimately, hopefully change lives for the better.
